The current location was split in two, with the southern region belonging to Excelsior Township and the northern belonging to the Medina Township. Because this made it difficult for those in the southern region to conduct business with the other parts of the Excelsior Township, due to Lake Minnetonka, the Townships were redrawn in 1868.
